How to become an ISACA member

ISACA is a non profit organisation which conducts 4 exams in the Information Systems field. These are the CISA for IS Auditing , CISM for Info Sec Mgt, CRISC for Risk Mgt and CGEIT for IT Governance. To give these exams it is beneficial to become a member as it gets discounts on the exam fees and study aids. For example I have listed the exam fees of CISM exam for June 2013 exam below.

Non-Member

Online* early registration deadline fee
US $410
US $585

        US $635
The member fees is 175$ less than a non member. However, the membership fees is 135 $ for online application plus chapter fees ranging from $15 to $25 depending on where you are residing. So the effective discount is 25-30$ only. However, being a member also entitles you to discounts on various study aids required for the exam. It also offers you access to ISACA eLibrary, Webinars, Virtual Conferences as well as discounts on Conferences.

The way to get ISACA membership is to got the ISACA website www.isaca.org and create an account for yourself on the website. It will require you to enter basic details like email, phone , address etc and finally a username and password. After this you can login with the recently created userid and password. Once logged in you can again click on Join ISACA fill in the remaining details , pay the membership fees plus chapter fees. You will be allotted a unique ID for ISACA membership. Once your membership is confirmed, next time your login you will automatically see discounted fees for the exam registrations as well as for books and software in the ISACA Store.

Finally , some ways to reduce the cost of becoming a member. Firstly you can opt for Membership at Large i.e you are not affiliated to any chapter. This is possible if you are located 80 miles away from any chapter in India. This is verified by the address you fill in while creating your account and taking the ISACA membership. Secondly, you can save 10 $ by quoting the membership ID of an existing ISACA member. However, this is applicable till 31 Dec 2012 as per ISACA newsletter. If anyone is interested in using my id, it is ISACA ID: 777429This is required to be entered after you have created your account and applying for membership. Thirdly , there are special rates for student membership if you are enrolled for a regular college course, However, relevant proof is required to be furnished for the same. Moreover, you can use the membership to acquire an additional ISACA certification besides CISM in the same calendar year if you have the requirement for the particular certification and stamina to study back to back for an year.
